Managing Ethical Challenges in Healthcare Leadership

March 21, 2013, 5:30-8:00 pm, Parma Community Hospital

Ethical challenges arise in all aspects of healthcare and service, from the bedside to the boardroom. Hospital leaders and boards set the ethical compass of the organization by making decisions about priorities, policies and resource allocation as they determine the best ways to meet the needs of their communities, while respecting their staff and the populations they serve. Understanding the expanding paradigm of planning, creating and maintaining an ethical healthcare organization is crucial to help identify strategies for implementing initiatives within your own organization. These initiatives go well beyond the bioethics programs in place at most hospitals.  Establishing and maintaining compliance, integrity, utilization, transparency, conflict of interest programs are priorities in today’s healthcare environment. Please join ACHE of Northern Ohio for a robust discussion of ethical challenges in healthcare leadership and real world strategies for developing and maintaining these programs.

Building the Hospital of Tomorrow: Rehabilitate, Renovate or Replace

February 21, 2013, 5:30 to 8 p.m, Hillcrest Hospital

This program will focus on strategic decision making for space use, renovation, repurposing and expansion as well as technical considerations for these kinds of projects.

Flexible and effective use of inpatient and ambulatory spaces in an evolving healthcare market is a challenge for healthcare leaders. In today’s competitive marketplace, significant capital expenditure decisions can make or break a healthcare organization and the career of the executive tasked with making such decisions or executing on them.

After years of relative dormancy, the healthcare construction boom continues throughout the U.S. for a variety of reasons, many of which impact both small community hospitals and large urban health systems alike. Additionally, competition and patient demand move organizations to incorporate the latest advances in care delivery, medical technology, new building codes, patient safety and healing design elements to enhance the patient experience through the surrounding environment.

The program will be hosted at Hillcrest Hospital and will feature a panel of healthcare leaders and content experts sharing their experience and expertise in this field including:

Terri Barber
Vice President Support Services/ CIO at Southwest
Southwest General Hospital

Larry Fischer
Principal
Perspectus Architecture

Joseph Strauss
Director of Planning and Design
Cleveland Clinic

Grace Wakulchik
Chief Operating Officer
